Fort Lauderdale | All Aboard Florida
According to President and Chief Development Officer Michael Reininger, All Aboard Florida will be sending trains to the area by the third quarter of next year. These trains will come in various sizes and feature all the usual seating arrangements. The trains should be ready to welcome passengers of every age and creed by the beginning of 2017.
Mr. Reininger wasn’t shy about sharing the company’s plans for the future. “The minute we’re in service the new railroad line will be looking for ways to expand and enlarge its services,” he said to a captive audience at a lunch for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
This new rail line will touch several different places. The downtown Miami spot is attributed to Henry Flagler, a visionary who planted a station there more than a century ago. All Aboard Florida will also visit stations in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, with another stop at Orlando International Airport, making travel convenient and comfortable for visitors.
Chamber members asked him about the possibility of adding other Florida cities to the agenda. Mr. Reininger said that some cities would work, but others were unlikely. For example, Jacksonville is a part of the Flagler railway route that All Aboard Florida operates. This makes things easier. On the other hand, reaching Tampa is difficult because an infrastructure base is nonexistent. However, he did express that Tampa is “important and desirable.”
A frequent traveler enquired about a Tallahassee stop. Mr. Reininger quickly replied that such a move would be “very challenging.” He then added, “I wonder if we can move the state capital to Miami?”
The arrival time from Miami to Fort Lauderdale is expected to be 26 minutes. Getting to Fort Lauderdale should take less than an hour, Mr. Reininger said. A trip from Miami to Orlando will be roughly three hours. To learn more about All Aboard Florida click here: Miami Today
