Fort Lauderdale Real Estate | Bahia Mar’s Massive Expansion
The Bahia Mar Resort & Marina in Fort Lauderdale Beach is about to have a fresh new look and feel. Located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd., the hotel has a marina along the Intracoastal Waterway and is across the street from a public beach. The expansion plan, that includes the demolition of a low-rise hotel building with 115 rooms, is set to cover 2.4 million square feet.
The property is the host of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which is the largest in the world. Instead of being held in tents, it would be held in a tricked-out parking garage with 16 foot ceilings and two atriums that would be converted to exhibition space for the show.
The expansion proposal calls for three condo buildings, new hotel rooms, retail & grocery stores, restaurants, and more. The 625 condos would be reserved as residential areas, which covers about 1.2 million square feet of the property. A large part of the new space would be used for parking garages.
The project is designed to engage the public with Bahia Mar, with an 18 foot wide pedestrian walkway that will circle the site around its large marina, two freestanding restaurant buildings, and a fishing village.
